The legacy of God worship

Due to the technological advances within modern society there doesn't appear that modern man has much in common with his ancient, and not so ancient ancestors. It is not that we have evolved beyond them, we have simply grown smarter. There are no fantastic physical differences between modern Homo sapiens sapiens compared to the same species of a 120,000 years ago. But there is one undeniable thing that we did and still have in common—and that is a belief in an omnipotent being that has created the very world we live in.

The worshipping of a supreme being is perhaps the strongest link that we have with, not only our own ancestors, but also with every other species of being that has ever walked upon this planet. It is regardless of how far we dig into the past we unearth unmistakable signs of worship. Hidden within the sands of time lay the same artefacts that we still use today. They used alters in the same manner that we use them; separate sanctums for religious service; religious symbols, scented oils to incense, etc, etc.

So why has religion, after millennium of time, remained with us as the most important essence of our existence? Through the teaching of science we have reached the conclusion that our earliest ancestors were little more than primitive barbarians living in caves and yielding clubs. They possessed no forms of writing and communicated by grunts—yet their spiritual legacy was, as archaeology reveals, a universal practice. So how was their legacy communicated? A hand print on the wall of a cave? The swing of a club? How?

We need to ask ourselves—was our primitive ancestor really as primitive as science wishes us to believe? Remember that giant jigsaw puzzle and how these empty gaps are filled with assumptions and speculations, and if not kept in check, will eventually be recognized as 'established truth' and taught as actual fact. We outside the schooling establishment have allowed ourselves to be seduced by egos brandishing degrees and allowed them the freedom to write history, and without question. Within our own complacency we have created a situation which now makes it very difficult to pull back these egos in check.

Archaeological evidences suggest that written history goes back only 5,000 to 6,000 years BC. So it is assumed that the 'written word' did not exist beyond that period. Because the absence of the 'written word' ultimately suggests that the people living before that 6,000 year span must have lacked considerable intelligence. This is despite the fact that there exist various 'step pyramids' that have been constructed before that period, and that only could have been constructed using mathematical means. So how were these mathematical formula communicated...by hand signals?

Obviously, in the light of continued conflicting archaeological discoveries, the free thinking student must come to the conclusion that mathematics itself is a language, and this language is recorded and revealed through the very monuments that have arisen through this language. It is also reasonable to assume that, with an indisputable mathematical language having existed in ancient times, a more basic form of language must have existed, for, can you have one without the other?

For the time being, disregarding our modern theory of evolution, which modern archaeology is putting holes into, anyway, we should consider the possibility of vastly different cultures having existed side by side, during various periods of history, with each culture, in one form or another, influencing the other. Our modern understanding of science is pointing in that very direction.

The more one looks into the complicated history books filled with contradictions, assumptions and speculations, the more difficult it becomes to logically arrive at an acceptable plausibility of when mankind first walked upon the earth. The old Biblical story of Adam and Eve hardly fits into this scenario, unless, of course, we are prepared to disregard the rather erroneous genealogical time line, no doubt contrived by old Jewish Rabbis. This is not the last we have to say concerning the first couple but will go more in-depth in later discourses. Let it suffice for now to realize that the story of the first couple is not unique, nor original to the Old Testament, as similar versions are found in different cultures. We still yet need to discover who possessed the original story.

What fascinates us at this point is, not the particular culture that first recorded the creation of the first couple, but, as ancient as that culture may be to us now, this culture was relating to a yet more ancient culture from where it claims its inheritance. For example, when the ancient Israelites entered into Jericho, the city at that time was already regarded as ancient, perhaps by some thousands of years. So also, ancient Egypt, one of the oldest civilizations to date, relates its heritage from a much more ancient civilization.

Regardless of the significance of any civilization, from the most humble to the greatest, each had their own peculiar gods and deities that they venerated and worshiped. In fact, archaeologists yet need to find a civilization that did not worship a particular god. So how, and when did God worship first originate?

The origin of God worship is probably not as fantastic as one might believe. Many theories have been ventured to explain this religious link between civilizations—and the answer is not always UFO's.
