Suffering in Purgatory

We have discussed the various levels we call Purgatory.  We have also discussed some of the difficulties the soul may encounter on its journey after death.  We have not yet really dealt with the levels below Purgatory, levels we call Hell, and the beings that reside on these levels.  Much of New Age thought would much sooner disregard these levels, or prefer to be in denial that such levels exist, preferring to see everything as positive and that there is nothing to fear.  Such is their choice.  But we will, later, discuss some of these beings and the control or influence they can have on our daily lives.

I have mentioned that the spirit cannot descend higher until it has passed through a period of judgment, mostly self-judgment, and that the soul body, or astral body, must disintegrate away from the spirit proper.  This process happens gradually, naturally, depending greatly on the spirit's level of spiritual evolution, the main reason of why we incarnate on this planet.  This disintegration of the soul body, which is simply the discarding of lower, gross frequencies is hardly noticeable by the evolved spirit.  The lesser evolved spirits do suffer during this process, much as a smoker may suffer denying himself the gratification of nicotine.  The more the vices the spirit has enshrouded himself in, the greater will be the suffering.

One must never think that bodily vices and their addictions to them disappear at the moment of death.  This is not the case.  Naturally, for the strong minded, the addictions may more quickly be overcome.  For the weaker minded, it may take quite some time.  The taking of alcohol and drugs is so damaging that the contamination of them does not simply infest the aura, the astral body, but penetrates beyond, into the next frequency range of the various bodies attached to the spirit proper, the frequency range of spirit once the soul has been shed.
